I build websites and apps that people come back to, feel fast, just work, hold up on a bad day

I'm Toyan, founding frontend engineer at EscrowPay. On my own I've shipped a daily math puzzle, a realtime multiplayer game and a subscription tracker for iPhone and Android: the screens people use, and the Node.js and MongoDB parts behind them.

Things I've built

Work for the companies I'm part of, and things I've built on my own. Each one links to a write-up on how I built it and why.

EscrowPay

Escrow for Nigerians who buy and sell online. Deals start on WhatsApp; buyers pay on the web, and a bank holds the money until delivery.

Buying from someone online in Nigeria usually ends in a standoff: the buyer won't pay first, and the seller won't send first. EscrowPay fixes that inside WhatsApp, but the money itself can't move in a chat. Someone who has only ever talked to a bot has to open a link and trust it with their money.

Assure

Website for a virtual care company: the public site, and a simple way for patients to get started.

Assure works with health brands and clinics. They needed a public site that explains the company, and a calm path for a patient to start care, without those two jobs tripping over each other.

Jikoo

Website for a Nigerian food delivery brand, for people ordering, restaurants, and riders.

Jikoo isn't one audience. Hungry people want dinner. Restaurants want more orders. Riders want a shift. The site had to talk to all three without feeling like a generic food template.

On my own

Games and apps I built because I wanted them to exist.

Logicore

A daily math puzzle. Guess the hidden equation, keep a streak, and play friends without spoiling today's answer.

I wanted a daily puzzle like Wordle, but for math. The catch: if you can share today's answer, or fudge your time, the whole thing falls apart the moment friends get involved.

Harbingr

Track subscriptions in naira and dollars, and get reminded before the charge hits.

Subscriptions are easy to start and easy to forget. Some of yours are in naira. Some are in dollars. Most apps want a bank login and treat everything as one currency. You just want one list, and a heads-up before anything renews.

Connect Four

Play a friend online, watch a match, talk while you play, or take on the computer.

It started as a Frontend Mentor challenge: Connect Four for two people sharing one screen. I wanted to play friends who weren't in the room. Connect Four is simple at a table. Online, it isn't. Whose turn is it if the wifi drops? Can someone watch? Can you talk? And can the computer play well without the page freezing?

Pairs

A card-matching game. Flip two cards at a time to find the pairs. Beat your best time solo, or play up to three friends online, with leaderboards for both.

It started as a Frontend Mentor challenge: a memory game for one to four players on one screen. Passing a laptop around isn't how anyone plays with friends any more, so I wanted the same game, but everyone on their own phone.

About me: software developer

Toyan in a striped tee, cap and sunglasses, hands on his hips

I write code, break things, fix them, and ship work that holds up.

I build web and mobile apps with Next.js, React, React Native and Node.js, making sure they don't just run, but run well.

So far that's a daily math puzzle, a realtime multiplayer game, a subscription tracker for iPhone and Android, and websites for clients. The interesting part is usually the unglamorous detail: what happens when the wifi drops, when a payment date gets missed, when someone tries to cheat.

Sometimes I add animations, because why not? If I'm not coding, I'm probably deep into a console game, trying to beat a final boss or just enjoying the pixels.
